As the old New York we used to know and love quickly fades from memory and the downtown art scene continues to beat a hasty retreat to Brooklyn, we at Supertouch wholeheartedly support gallerists who stick it out below Houston, the latest of which is longtime ally ALIX SLOAN, whose new space—the eponymous SLOAN GALLERY—opened its doors last week with a knockout show of new work by ERIC WHITE, CLAYTON BROTHERS, VINCE CONTARINO, NICHOLAS COPE, ELIZABETH MCGRATH, KRISTEN SCHIELE, and AARON SMITH. Located at the corner of Rivington and Norfolk in the heart of the Lower East Side, Ms. Sloan is poised to dominate the scene by playing host to some of the neighborhood’s most anticipated shows including the next introductory group show which will feature Mark Ryden’s long-anticipated return to Manhattan.
