Would-be punters saving their allowance for a shot at DAMIEN HIRST’s so-called “Diamond Skull” (formal title: “For The Love of God,” thank you), can call off the chase. The artist’s London gallery, WHITE CUBE, announced today that an unnamed “investment group” has purchased the bauble for the original asking price of $100 million, nearly a month after the unsold piece was removed from display. It has now officially become the most expensive piece of modern art ever sold. The gallery also noted that Hirst retained an ownership stake in the piece and that (surprise!) the gallery planned to re-sell the piece at a later date, at which point the skull will probably break its own sales record. Our guess is that it won’t be on eBay…
